It is the 50th Anniversary year for
the Norton Owners Club and there are a host of meetings being
held this year to celebrate.
One of the biggest will be held over 3 days in June: Friday 19th
June to Sunday 21st June at Leicestershires famous Donington Park
race circuit.
As well as having many well known and famous bikes at the meeting,
there will be the opportunity to ride both your road and race
bikes round the circuit, and even better, there is no noise limit
in force so you can have the chance to run them on an open Megga!
All being well, I am hoping to be there myself and if I can get
my backside into gear (!), then I hope to have my 1938 'Big Plunger'
Manx finished and at the event. This bike shows on the Norton
records as being the first of 7 bikes built for 1938 ISDT event
(held in the UK that year), in which the GB team won the Gold
Vase. Although I have not yet been able to identify who rode my
particular bike, I would like to think there is a chance it could
have been one of the winning team. Fittingly , the last event
of 1938 ISDT was the Speed Event at the pre-war premier race circuit
- Donington Park! |
